The myth that the board of the 49ers would throw money at Rangers has been truly exposed. They have built up their fortunes based on investing and balancing risk and have had their successes but no doubt their losses too. They live in a world of algorithms and mitigation, return on investment against yield, fiscal probity is their mantra. They have clearly not sat round a party table and after a few bevvies decided to take a punt.

If risk is not being met with positive return then the reins are well and truly pulled and that’s where Gerrard found himself last week. Cash spent with no more to come, to work with the incumbent asset base and to live in an organisational structure where he doesn’t have total say so. Rangers are 6 months too late in approaching Gerrard - this may be a 49ers venture that has already been filed under “bin”.

Apparently Gerard not being back in the UK for 12 months would've had to paid a large sum of back taxes, the 49rs quite rightly refusad to pay that bill so Slippy threw the toys oot the pram

For once Gerrard seems to have got it right! The Rangers gig seems to be a real poisoned chalice. It’s mob rule these days. No serious coach will touch this.
