You are correct to highlight the emotional investment many in the media had in a Hearts title, and the bitterness that ensued after Celtic clinched it. The morning after the Motherwell v Celtic game, he had two ex refs (one being Bobby Madden) to state that Celtic should not have been awarded a penalty. He himself was picked out by BBC cameras in the Hearts section at Celtic Park. That would have been footage for the victory narrative. His colleague, Brian MacLachlan was also running with the assault line in the immediate aftermath.
A week later Tom English took exception to a Celtic fan coming on and stating that there had been a media overreaction. The fan stated that had Hearts been at Tynecastle and won the game in similar circumstances, many of their fans would have invaded the pitch. English declared that Hearts standards were not Celtic standards. There was an incredible level of bias throughout BBC Scotland over Celtic's title triumph
Great piece but I don't think you can call it an apology at all Andy, "I guess I'll take it on the chin like Lawrence Shankland didn't" to me that still infers that it could've been elsewhere on the body. I think Nevin's trying to be a smartarse wee prick and making a very minimal admission that he got it wrong but that's hardly an apology. We're led to believe that Nevin's a supposed intellectual (only in his own mind) so the language he used is important and in what he said I never once saw the word sorry appear. He's a little rat bastard and whatever the Celtic support have allegedly done to him he's certainly harbouring an enoromous grudge. We're led to believe he was a Celtic supporter growing up but you wouldn't think so with the massive chip on his shoulder and his petted lip that he tripped over by making a false and incendiary statement against our support. He should be sine die as a broadcaster and anyone else who makes false allegations should face the same punishment, in my opinion it's the only justifiable treatement for being a barefaced liar.
Nevin is an establishment soup taker, just like his fellow traveler James McFadden.
I would ban Nevin from Celtic Park for his misdemeanor. We had to do the same with Charlie Nicholas.
